Ingredients

Main
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional garnish
  • Pinch of fleur de sel or flaky sea salt optional topping

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Whisk
  • Serving bowl or ramekin

Method

  1. Place the medium saucepan over medium heat and melt the unsalted butter for about 1 minute.
  2. Add the packed brown sugar to the melted butter and stir constantly for 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture bubbles and turns a rich amber color.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring constantly for about 1 minute until fully combined.
  4. Stir in the sea salt and vanilla extract until fully combined, about 30 seconds.
  5. Let the caramel cool in the pan for 2 to 3 minutes until warm but not piping hot.
  6. In a mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese and pour the warm caramel over it, stirring until smooth, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  7. Gently fold in the caramel sauce with a spatula until swirled, about 30 seconds.
  8. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and sprinkle with ground cinnamon and fleur de sel if desired; serve immediately warm or refrigerate until ready to serve.
