Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons ground coffee or 2 espresso pods
  • 1/2 cup milk whole or your choice
  • 1-2 teaspoons sugar optional
  • Cocoa powder or cinnamon for dusting

Equipment

  • Espresso machine or stovetop espresso maker
  • Milk frother or steam wand
  • Coffee grinder
  • Measuring cup
  • Cappuccino cups

Method

  1. Brew the espresso using an espresso machine or stovetop maker, extracting for about 25 seconds.
  2. Heat the milk in a small saucepan over low heat to about 150°F, making sure it is steaming but not boiling.
  3. Froth the heated milk with a milk frother or steam wand until it doubles in volume and forms a creamy foam.
  4. Pour the brewed espresso into cappuccino cups, aiming for a 1:1 ratio of espresso to milk.
  5. Spoon the frothed milk on top of the espresso to create a layered effect.
  6. Stir in sugar or sweetener to taste, if desired.
  7. Lightly dust the foam with cocoa powder or cinnamon for a finishing touch.
  8. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your homemade cappuccino.

Notes

For the best froth, start with cold milk before heating.
