Ingredients

Main
  • 4 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Buns for serving
  • Optional toppings: mustard sauerkraut, relish

Equipment

  • Grill or grill pan
  • Tongs
  • Meat thermometer
  • Serving platter
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients.
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5 minutes until they are soft and translucent.
  4. Pour the beer into the skillet with the onions.
  5. Place the bratwurst in the skillet and let them simmer in the beer mixture for about 10 minutes, turning occasionally.
  6. While the brats simmer, preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  7. Remove the brats from the beer mixture and place them on the grill.
  8. Grill for about 5 minutes on each side until they are nicely browned.
  9. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the brats; they should reach 160°F for safe consumption.
  10. Remove the brats from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.
  11. Serve them in buns with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the brats soak in the beer mixture overnight before cooking.
