Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup tapioca pearls
  • 4 cups water for cooking pearls
  • 2 cups brewed tea black or green
  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy
  • 1/4 cup sweetener sugar, honey, or syrup
  • Ice for serving

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Strainer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Stirring spoon
  • Glass cups for serving

Method

  1. Start by bringing 4 cups of water to a rolling boil in a large pot.
  2. Add 1 cup of tapioca pearls to the boiling water and stir gently to prevent them from sticking together.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium and let the pearls simmer for about 20 minutes.
  4. Once cooked, strain the pearls using a fine mesh strainer and rinse them briefly under cold water.
  5. In a bowl, mix the drained pearls with your chosen sweetener.
  6. While the pearls are cooling, brew your tea of choice and allow it to steep for 5-7 minutes.
  7. In a large glass, combine the brewed tea, milk, and sweetener to taste, and stir well.
  8. Add ice to the glass, followed by a generous scoop of the sweetened tapioca pearls, and pour the tea mixture over the top before enjoying.

Notes

Allow the boba pearls to soak in sweetener for maximum flavor before adding them to your drink.
