Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutter or knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently just a few times.
  6. Roll the dough to about 1-inch thickness.
  7. Use a cookie cutter or knife to cut the biscuits into your desired shape and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

These biscuits are great served with jam, alongside soups, or as a base for biscuits and gravy.
